I am a relationship counsellor and former family lawyer based in Melbourne who specialises in helping couples and individuals with all aspects of conflict and relationship wellbeing.
I trained as a lawyer at the University of Melbourne and subsequently to raising my own family returned to complete post-graduate training at Swinburne University in family therapy. I now combine my expertise and experience in these two areas.
I am trained and supervised in Sue Johnson’s Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples and in Bill Doherty’s Discernment Counselling for couples who are on the brink of separation or divorce. I have completed the Developmental Model of Couples Therapy Training and the Interdisciplinary Collaborative Practice Team Training - theory, practice and team building to work effectively in collaborative law.
I have a specialisation in working with couples in Emotionally Focussed Therapy and with individuals in Somatic Experiencing. I listen to you to help identify stuck places and patterns and to assist you to create new ways of communicating, checking in often to be sure we are on the right track.
I am a qualified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner who works with individuals and couples struggling with issues ranging from emotional reactivity, addiction, social anxiety, depression, physical / sexual / emotional abuse, chronic anger or grief, digestive issues and other symptoms of past traumatic experience.
Somatic Experiencing® (SE), is a body-mind healing modality that provides powerful tools for supporting proper nervous system functioning. This is critical for helping to decrease stress and trauma and with it we can move toward greater ease and fulfillment in our lives.
I listen to you to help identify the blocks that get in the way of you feeling more ease. Using these highly successful methods which integrate the latest research and teaching of mind-body wisdom you grow in your capacity to cope, manage and indeed thrive in your life. Clients who have experienced the benefits of SE and EFT report feeling more of a felt sense of safety and satisfaction in life. By learning to mobilise their innate life force and drive for healing and learning a new way of relating to self and other, they develop skills that lead to enhanced health and well being. By identifying the stuck places in patterns of intimate relationships they can more easily move towards greater closeness and connection.
I hold an ongoing professional interest in the latest developments in neuroscience and links to mindfulness techniques, in which I have practiced for over 15 years.
My book Mindful Relationships has been published nationally and internationally and is available here.
I combine all of this with practice experience - I have helped hundreds of couples work through conflict and painful emotions as well as finding and creating loving healthy and happy relationships.
