Adolescence is a time of developmental transition that requires careful support and management. We provide youth services to assist teenagers who are going through difficulties. Whether from the stress and strain of modern day life, peer pressure or parental and adolescent conflict, we help young people by providing a range of strategies to improve communication and a safe place to be heard and understood.
Common questions for adolescents during this period are:
Who am I really? How do I know what I feel or what I truly want? What are my strengths and weaknesses and what direction do I need to choose for my life? When do I most feel myself?
It may be due to academic pressure and stress or conflict in relationships with friends or family, but our counselling for youth services offers independent support and care. Having someone to talk to who can offer strategies to assist with problems at school, and balancing the competing demands commonly experienced by adolescents in today’s busy world can be a tremendous relief.
Depression, anger and loneliness are some of the emotions adolescents may be dealing with. Our services offer support to help them understand and manage their own emotions during this often turbulent time.
Sometimes they just need to tell their story to an impartial outside party.
Other situations require the ability to develop their emotional muscle, to become aware of their emotional processes and to learn skills of self-management.
Youth services through adolescent longer term counselling or short term coaching can greatly help facilitate the maturing process. Working with their emotions, adolescents can learn to enhance their relationships with themselves so that they become at ease and more confident. They learn tools and skills to enhance their self-esteem and assist them to make healthy decisions. Youth services also assist adolescents to get the most out of their learning and to manage stress.
They learn self protective skills such as how to create healthy boundaries.
Fundamentally, we work to help adolescents develop their own inner wisdom and intuition and to trust themselves. I collaborate with them to help them look within to get their intellect and intuition to work together so that they can make wise choices that are consistent with their values. In doing this they develop their own inner compass, a healthy sense of self and come to know themselves more fully.
